The nature of sin In Western cultures, sin is the act of doing something that is wrong, that does harm, or is of negative merit. It is also the accumulation of bad merit. You are asked to be good, to do the right thing and follow your conscience. Sin happens when you deviate from what is good in your community or society. In Eastern cultures, sin can be roughly translated as actions that take you out of appropriateness, or away from the right path. The right path or way is called Dharma, Righteousness, the Tao, or being in Grace. Here, sin happens when you deviate from what is good for you. Have you ever wondered what it is about sin that makes it wrong? Sin holds our disconnection to our heart or our core. Sin is that which causes us to forget and ignore our inner connection, and instead, binds us outwardly to an attachment. Sin separates us from our own hearts. We hold on to this separation, to the memories and experiences that created it, and to the sense of unworthiness and shame resulting from it. The damage of sin is that it holds that separation, keeping us from being vital, truly present and open to the unfolding of our life . . . |
